In general, grounding rods are devices that intercept the electrode which will be used in the electricity system and will provide a safe means of discharging any electrical energy obtained from the system into the earth. While purchasing the materials for the grounding rod it is important for some factors to be considered which include the conductivity, mechanical strength as well as the corrosion resistance of the grounding rod. Generally, the materials include copper, galvanized steel and, stainless steel. Copper rods provide great conductivity but the disadvantages are that they are usually susceptible to corrosion while more cost-friendly galvanized steel performs admirably. If the budget can stretch, this is definitely worth it: stainless steel is more expensive than most, but it is extremely corrosion resistant starch-, perfect for adverse conditions. Knowing these material characteristics help in getting the most appropriate grounding rod. This will help in enhancing the safety and performance of the designed system.
